Thousands of Ghanaians living in the UK, US, Canada and Europe are building their dream homes back home. Managing a construction project remotely is one of the biggest challenges diaspora Ghanaians face — and choosing the right building materials without being on the ground is near-impossible without a trusted supplier.
This guide covers the full process of specifying, ordering and taking delivery of burnt clay bricks and terracotta tiles for your Ghana home — all without needing to travel. It is based on how we work with diaspora clients every day at Bricmates.
The five-step process for diaspora clients
Send us a WhatsApp message with a brief description of your project — location, what you are building, and any photos or plans you have. You do not need architectural drawings at this stage. We will ask a few questions and give you an initial sense of what products suit your project and what the cost range looks like. This consultation is completely free and carries no obligation. We are available on WhatsApp 8am–5:30pm Monday to Friday, and 8am–2pm Saturday (Ghana time).
To give you an accurate quotation, we need either your architectural drawings (any format — PDF, WhatsApp photo, email) or the key measurements of the walls you want to cover. If you have a site foreman or contractor on the ground, they can take and send us the measurements. We will then calculate the quantities of bricks or tiles required, add a buffer for cuts and wastage, and prepare a detailed supply quotation. We can also advise your contractor on material quantities if they are managing the build.
We will recommend the most suitable products for your project — whether that is our Natural Multi-tone brick, Classic Red, or one of our terracotta tile ranges. If you would like to see the physical colours before committing, we can arrange for samples to be sent to your site in Ghana (for your contractor or a trusted family member to review), or we will send you detailed photographs of the products in natural Ghanaian daylight so you can see exactly how they look on site. We will also send you the full technical data sheet for any product you are considering, so your architect or quantity surveyor can include it in the project specification.
Once you are happy with the product selection and quantities, we issue a formal quotation. We accept payment in GHS (Ghana Cedis), GBP (British Pounds) and USD (US Dollars). Payment can be made via bank transfer. We issue a full receipt and order confirmation immediately on payment. A deposit is required to confirm your order, with the balance due before delivery. All financial transactions are documented and receipts are sent via WhatsApp and email.
Materials are delivered to your site on the agreed date. We send you confirmation photos and videos of the materials at our depot before dispatch, and delivery confirmation photos once the materials arrive on site. If you have a site foreman, we coordinate directly with them. If you do not have someone trusted on the ground, we can also liaise with your contractor on your behalf. Once delivery is confirmed, we are available for any follow-up questions about the installation process.
Frequently asked questions from diaspora clients
Do I need to visit Ghana to order?
No. The entire process — from initial consultation to delivery confirmation — can be completed remotely via WhatsApp. We have worked with diaspora clients in the UK, US, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands and Australia, none of whom needed to travel to Ghana to place and receive their order.
What if I do not have a contractor yet?
We can advise on quantities and specifications even before you have a contractor in place, so you have the material costs confirmed as part of your overall build budget. When you do appoint a contractor, we are happy to liaise with them directly to confirm delivery scheduling.
What currency can I pay in?
We invoice and accept payment in GHS (Ghana Cedis), GBP (British Pounds) and USD (US Dollars). We will confirm the applicable exchange rate at the time of quotation. All payments receive a full receipt.
How do I know the materials have arrived on site?
We send you WhatsApp photos and videos confirming delivery. If you have a foreman, contractor or trusted family member on site, we coordinate with them directly and keep you in the loop at every stage.
Can you also handle the installation?
Yes. If you would like us to supply and install, our professional installation team can work directly with your contractor or operate independently on site. Installation updates and sign-off photos are provided via WhatsApp throughout.
